The expo was held at the Australian Maritime College in Launceston, attracting over 250 aspiring and current AMC students, local educators, career councillors, and a range of prospective employers-including AMSA.
'The number and breadth of queries we received, showed that students view a career in maritime as a desirable option, especially because they know there are a lot of jobs available after they graduate and there are incentives such as scholarships, mentoring and traineeships to help them through their studies,' said Andrew Oliver, Manager People and Property.
'The Australian maritime industry is expanding at its fastest rate since World War II, but enrolments into maritime engineering courses are at an all-time low, contributing to the critical skills shortage across the sector.
In light of the predicted shortage of workers in the maritime industry, building the future maritime workforce is a priority for AMSA, which is why we've partnered with the AMC for their Engineering Our Future campaign.
We were very pleased to see such a high level of interest from students in their final years of secondary school as well as those already enrolled at the college, and we hope they will consider the maritime industry and AMSA as part of their future career path.'
AMSA is committed to supporting the Maritime industry and the important role the Australian Maritime College plays in growing a capable workforce for industry. To assist students entering into a Maritime qualification and support inclusion in the industry AMSA provides the following scholarships:
- AMSA Environmental Excellence Scholarship IMAS
- AMSA First Year Access Scholarship for Maritime Studies
- AMSA Women in Maritime Engineering Scholarship
