Traditional inhabitant boats (TIBs) are domestic commercial vessels owned by Indigenous operators in the Torres Strait region.
In most cases, TIBs are not only used for commercial activities such as fishing operations. Many are also used for personal travel, subsistence fishing, traditional hunting and to access essential services.
We are aiming to make a positive change in this region and promote a culture of safety within the TIB sector.
Our objective is to inform and educate operators on how to better assess and manage risks on the water to ensure they arrive home safely to their families.
