Proposed changes relating to prevention of oil pollution from vessels

We sought feedback on proposed changes to Marine Order 91 (Marine pollution prevention – oil).

Marine Order 91 (MO91) is vital for preventing oil pollution from vessels. It sets out requirements for the prevention of pollution by oil and gives effect to Annex I of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL).

What changes are we seeking feedback on?

The proposed changes include:

  • allowing for the use of electronic record books in place of hardcopy records for the Oil Record Book
  • providing for the exemption of unmanned non-self-propelled (UNSP) barges from certain survey and certification requirements relating to the International Oil Pollution Prevention (IOPP) Certificate  
  • ensuring all references to MARPOL Annex I within MO91 are correct following updates to MARPOL Annex I.
