Request a certified extract of Register

If you are looking to purchase a vessel and would like to know the current ownership details or you need detailed information on a registered ship, a title extract will provide this information.

A certified extract of Register will show the particulars of a ship from the date it is produced. It gives details of ownership, ship particulars and any caveats over a registered ship.

The Shipping Registration Office does not register ships’ mortgages.  For information regarding mortgages, contact the Personal Property Securities Register.

To request a certified extract of Register, you need to:

Know the name or official number to identify the vessel

A certified extract of Register can be generated for vessels that are currently or have previously been Australian registered. An Australian registered vessel will:

  • be Australian owned.
  • have the name of the vessel marked on both sides of the vessel’s bow and the name and home port marked on the stern.

If you know the name of the vessel, you can search for the vessel on the register. The vessel’s registration certificate will also have the name and official number for the vessel and the name and address of the current registered owner(s).
