How to prepare your application

To apply for a vacancy with us, you must:

1. Check your eligibility

You’ll need to be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or a permanent resident who has already submitted an application for citizenship, to apply for an ongoing role with us.

We may consider applications from non-citizens for certain roles, so check the advertisement for specific eligibility requirements.

2. Understand the job requirements

To gain an understanding of the role requirements, carefully read the position description before you apply. The position description tells you about the purpose of the role, and the key responsibilities. It also tells you the qualifications, experience and capabilities you will need to be able to do the role.

You can get the position description by clicking on the PDF link at the bottom of the job advertisement in the jobs list on the current vacancies page.

If after reading the position description, you believe you have the relevant qualifications, skills and experience and you relate to our values, we encourage you to apply. If you are unsure about any aspects of the role, please speak with the contact person available on the job advertisement for more details.

3. Start your application

Select ‘start new application’ for the role you wish to apply for, then select ‘begin’ at the bottom of the job advertisement.

Remember to check when the role closes and make sure you complete the online application form prior to this time.

As part of your application you will be asked to respond to a series of questions relating to you, and your qualifications, skills and experience relevant to the pre-requisites and required capabilities of the role.  You will also need to upload a copy of your resume.

From time to time depending on the role, our recruitment or application process may be customised to the role. Any changes to these processes will be communicated on the job advertisement, so please make sure you read it carefully before proceeding.

You can save your application at any time and come back to complete it later.

4. Submit your application

Once you have completed the online application form, you are ready to submit your application. Make sure you finalise your application and submit it via the online system before the advertised closing date.

To submit your application, simply click ‘submit’. Please note, once you have submitted your application you can no longer edit it.

You will receive a confirmation email from us once you have successfully submitted your application.

You need to submit your application by 11.30 pm AEST on the closing date, unless stated otherwise on the job advertisement. If you need an extension, you should email recruitment@amsa.gov.au. Extensions are not always granted and are at the discretion of the selection panel.

You will be notified of the outcome of your application at the conclusion of the selection process.
