AMSA is proud to support the 2023 National NAIDOC Week theme For Our Elders.
Learn more about For Our Elders.
Across every generation, First Nations Elders have played and continue to play an important role in communities and families. An area that is of special importance to coastal and seafaring communities is the traditional knowledge of weather passed down by Elders.
An understanding of the weather in maritime communities governs winds, tides, food sources and cultural practices, which continues to be important knowledge for people living by and working in our oceans.
To recognise and celebrate this vital knowledge, during NAIDOC we will be featuring traditional First Nations understandings of weather from around Australia.
