Exemption 25 expires on 30 June 2025 and will not be renewed.
You will need a National Law certificate of competency if you need to operate outside of the conditions on your old certificate.
You can obtain a National Law certificate using your old certificate of competency. To learn how to do this, see guidance for holders of perpetual certificates and domestic certificates that expired more than 5 years ago.
To ensure continuity of operations, please take appropriate action at least 90 days before your exemption expires.
What Exemption 25 will allow you to do
Exemption 25 exempts a person from complying with a condition imposed on their old certificate of competency that restricts them to specific duties, or to an area of a state or the Northern Territory.
An old certificate of competency is a state or Northern Territory maritime safety authority certificate of competency that was issued:
- before 1 July 2013—for a certificate in force immediately before 1 July 2013
- before 1 January 2014—for a certificate applied for before 1 July 2013, but for which the application was not finally determined by 1 July 2013.
To be eligible for this exemption you must have received written approval from AMSA for the duties to be performed without the condition.
You can apply for approval under Exemption 25 by completing AMSA form 758 and submitting it by email to DCVapplications@amsa.gov.au. Permissions issued for this exemption will have an expiry date of 30 June 2025.
With your application you must include:
- details of the condition/s on your certificate of competency you are applying to be exempt from
- a copy of your current certificate/s of competency.
