AMSA Contact Centre team member, Eliza, talks about her move from university graduate to Training coordinator:

"I finished up my Bachelor of Arts and was prompted to apply for a role with AMSA by my housemate who was working here and spoke highly of their team and the work they were doing with the organisation. Fast forward 5 years and I'm now training others on AMSA's role in the maritime industry and have had steady growth in my responsibilities and my team.

My advice to graduates - don't be afraid of stepping into something unknown! I didn't come from a maritime background, but I have learnt a huge amount and being able to meet the challenges in my day-to-day work has been extremely gratifying."

Structured graduate programs

Stay tuned! We are in the process of developing a graduate program. In the meantime, if you are an Indigenous Australian graduate and interested in starting your career with an organisation like AMSA, have a look at the Indigenous Apprenticeship Program (IAP).

Indigenous Apprenticeship Program

We're proud to be a partner of the Indigenous Apprenticeship Program. Delivered by Services Australia, the IAP plays a pivotal role in increasing employment opportunities by offering a pathway for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to start their career in the APS whilst undertaking a formal qualification. Hear what participants have to say about their experience.

Maritime scholarships

We acknowledge the barriers some people face accessing education and as part of our dedication to supporting students in maritime degrees, we provide academic excellence scholarships as well as scholarships for those who have a financial or social need. We also offer a dedicated scholarship for women in maritime who are studying engineering - as we recognise that this group is significantly underrepresented in the maritime industry.

Through our scholarship program, we aim to support the development of skills in the maritime industry and build our brand as an employer of choice.

The scholarship program is representative of the community we serve and recognises potential, assists those in need and rewards high achievement. We have partnered with the University of Wollongong (UoW) and the University of Tasmania (UTAS) to offer several scholarships.
