Historically, the maritime industry and workforce has not reflected the diversity of society and has not provided equal opportunities for everyone, particularly along gender identities.
We recognise there is work to do to ensure AMSA is a gender equitable employer, and we are committed to being a leading example for industry.

Our progress
International Women’s Day 2024 was an opportunity for us to reflect on the achievements we have made so far.
We’re proud to say that we have completed 88% of our planned activities with all remaining activities on track to be delivered by 2027.
So far:
- we launched a gender neutral language working group to support and encourage the use of gender neutral language in the maritime sector
- the Australian Government's new Workplace Gender Equality Agency certified us as compliant with reporting requirements
- The Diversity Council Australia recognised us as an inclusive employer for 2023-24
- we co-hosted a major event to recognise International Day for Women in Maritime (attended by more than 160 people)
- representatives from every division participated in the Public Sector Women in Leadership Summit across Australia.
