ISPS Code Security Communications by Vessels in the Australian Area
Marine Notice 9/2004
For the Attention of Masters, Ship Security Officers, Company Security
Officers and Shipping Agents.
The purpose of this marine notice is to advise all Masters , ship security
officers and maritime industry participants of the appropriate channel for
communicating security information to the Competent Security Authority in
Australia, as required under the International Maritime Organisation’s
International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and the Australian
Maritime Transport Security Act 2003.
The Office of Transport Security (OTS), within the Department of Transport and Regional Services (DOTARS) is the Australian Government’s Designated Authority for the purposes of maritime security communications under Chapter XI-2 of the International Convention for the Safety of Life At Sea, 1974.
The OTS has established an Operations Centre which is the primary point of contact for all ISPS Code vessel security concerns or questions.
In particular, Masters are asked to ensure that replies to requests for
ISPS Code related information are provided directly to the OTS Operations
Centre through email (transport.security@dotars.gov.au)
or by telephone on
1300 307 288 (internal Australia dial only) or +61 2 6274 8187 from overseas
or ships at sea, or by facsimile at +61 2 6274 6089.
All ISPS Code related enquiries should be directed by email to transport.security@dotars.gov.au.
Maritime security communications should not be transmitted to RCC Australia.
